The rates for NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class codes have increased significantly in 2013. Three specific class codes, 2039 (ice cream manufacturing & route salespersons, route supervisors, drivers), 2065 (milk products manufacturing NOC), and 2070 (creamery or dairy & route supervisors, drivers) have each increased over 10%. NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class code 2039 applies to insureds who manufacture ice cream and frozen ices in various forms such as bulk, brick, cups, rolls, on sticks, decorated ice cream cakes and other fancy shapes. Ingredients are mixed, pasteurized, homogenized, and cooled. The ice cream is then made into various forms or filled into different size containers and sent to hardening rooms. Drivers, distribution centers, and equipment installers and servicers are included under NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class code 2039.
NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class code 2065 applies to insureds who manufacture condensed milk, evaporated milk, dried milk, dehydrated milk, malted milk, milk powder, and similar milk products. Water is evaporated from raw milk to create the product, which is then canned or packaged. NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class code 2065 only applies when the operations are not otherwise classified in the basic manual.
NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class code 2070 applies to insureds who process raw milk received from outside sources. This includes the pasteurization to produce milk and cream and the further processing to produce buttermilk, cottage cheese, solid cheese, and butter. The bottling, packaging, storage, and distribution of these products are included in NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class code 2070.

The rates for NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class codes have increased significantly in 2013. Class code 2039 increased from 4.01 to 4.61, a 15% increase. Class code 2065 increased from 5.02 to 5.54, a 10.4% increase. Class code 2070 increased from 5.48 to 6.38, a 16.4% increase. Insureds whose operations apply to the NY Workers’ Comp dairy manufacturing class codes will see higher Workers’ Comp premiums in the 2013-2014 policy term.
