NY Worker’s Comp class code 8017: Store – Retail NOC applies to retail stores that sell merchandise that is not described by a specialty retail store classification in the Basic Manual. Retail stores are defined as stores that sell merchandise to the general public for personal or household consumption or use and not for resale. The NOC mentioned in the class code means that class code 8017 applies to operations that are “not otherwise classified” to another code. Stores that apply to NY Workers’ Comp class code 8017 sell such items as bakery products, beer and soft drinks, computers, housewares, and toys.

NY Workers’ Comp class code 8017 also applies demonstrators in retail stores owned by others, concessions, amusement device operators, secret shoppers, and ski shop employees. Operations that do not apply to class code 8017 include stores principally engaged in mail order sales of merchandise (8018) or the installation, service, or repair of household appliances and/or electronic equipment and automobile equipment by a retail store (9519).
