NY Worker’s Comp class code 8008 – Store: Clothing, Wearing Apparel or Dry Goods applies to a retail store engaged in selling any or all of the following merchandise: ready-to-wear clothing and wearing apparel, dry goods, and miscellaneous sewing accessories. Ready-to-wear clothing and wearing apparel includes suits, dresses, undergarments, and more. Dry goods include piece and yard goods, embroideries, blankets, and more. Miscellaneous sewing accessories include buttons, buckles, needles, and more. NY Workers’ Comp class code 8008 also includes the demonstration of wearing apparel in retail stores as well as coat or hat checkroom concessions.
NY Workers’ Comp class code 8008 does not apply to businesses engaged in the selling of ladies’ handbags. These businesses are instead assigned to class code 8017. Similarly, stores that sell sporting goods are also included under class code 8017, not 8008. Businesses that are engaged in the selling of mail order clothing, wearing apparel, or dry goods are included under class code 8032.
