NY Workers’ Comp class code 6400 is applied to specialist contractors who are engaged in the erection of all types of metal fences. This includes chain link, woven wire, wrought iron, or barbed wire fences. NY Workers’ Comp class code 6400 includes the erection of right-of-way fences which may have wooden or concrete posts with metal stringers. The fencing may be erected on a temporary or permanent basis. NY Workers’ Comp class code 6400 only applies to contractors who install or repair fences by hand.

NY Workers’ Comp class code 6400 does not apply to the erection of concrete fences that require a crane, hoist, or backhoe to install. Similarly, the erection of highway guardrails does not apply to NY Workers’ Comp class code 6400.
