NY Workers’ Comp class code 5445: Who Does It Apply To?
NY Workers’ Comp class code 5445 applies to insureds engaged in both the residential and commercial installation of wallboard, sheetrock, drywall, plasterboard, or cement board. Drywall framing and steel frame installation done prior to the drywall hanging are also included this classification. NY Workers’ Comp class code 5445 covers such operations as cutting the wallboard to size; butting and nailing the wallboard to the studdings; taping the seams and joints; applying and sanding joint compound; and texturizing operations.
If the drywall is installed by a general contractor responsible for the entire dwelling construction project, class code 5645 applies. Similarly, installation and taping or finishing operations are only separately classified when they are performed by a contractor whose principal business is other than wallboard installation and/or taping. NY Workers’ Comp class code 5445 applies to a contractor who installs metal stud partition systems, including metal floor and ceiling runners prior to applying the wallboard to metal studs. Interior steel frame work completed by wallboard installation contractors is also included in class code 5445.
