Insureds who install, remove or repair equipment that is used to direct gas or water supplies to a destination are included under NY Workers’ Comp class code 5183. This equipment includes piping and related fixtures, appliances, and accessories. NY Workers’ Comp class code 5183 also applies to domestic and residential pump or boiler installation. Commercial and industrial pump or boiler installation is separately rated.

Other operations included under NY Workers’ Comp class code 5183 include the cleaning and installation of beer drawing equipment, beer coil cleaning, hot water or steam furnace installations, building sewer connection cleaning, non-electric thermostat installations, and the installation or service of domestic water softener systems. Automatic sprinkler installation (5188), boiler installation or repair (3726), irrigation or drainage system construction (6229), and gas, steam, or water main construction (6319) are similar operations that do not apply to NY Workers’ Comp class code 5183.
