Description: Code 1624 is applicable to operations engaged in quarrying various materials including agricultural limestone, aplite rock, argillaceous limestone, ballast rock, cement rock, coral rock, feldspar, granite, hard rock shale, limestone, rock asphalt, and slate and silica rock. Code 1624 is a “not otherwise classified” classification that applies when more specific codes do not apply.
Code 1624 does not apply to underground mining operations. It applies to open pit-type quarrying or “surface mining” operations including stripping of surface material covering the minerals or rocks to be quarried. It also covers any drilling and blasting when performed in connection with quarrying operations.
